The babbleback machine is a program that continuously records sound from your PC's microphone and continuously plays that sound back after a delay. It is a fun, educational game for children as young as 6 months old.
This program is inspired by author Win Wenger's article at http://www.winwenger.com/part27.htm. It can be used "to give your child not only a far better gift of articulateness for life, but a far better grasp for life of verbal meanings and intelligence." Your child will be fascinated to hear back the sounds he/she makes. This fascination will encourage more sounds and result in more learning. Win describes how powerful feedback-directly-from-output can be for learning in his article http://www.winwenger.com/feed1.htm.
I wrote this game for my two-year-old daughter. The first time I turned it on, it took about a minute or two for her to understand what was going on. She spent the next hour-and-a-half laughing, squealing, talking, and babbling. She still wanted more and asked for the game on an almost daily basis for the next month.
